Jonathan Tah: From Leverkusen to Bavaria - a new king in defense!
Allianz Arena, 80339 München, Deutschland - Jonathan Tah has taken a remarkable step in his career by moving from Bayer Leverkusen to Bayern Munich. The 29-year-old central defender signed a four-year contract by 2029, as Bayern Munich officially announced on Thursday. Tah, who can look back on a decade at Leverkusen, had already expressed his wish to leave the club after last season after winning the double of the championship and DFB Cup with Leverkusen. This change takes place free of charge, even if there are initially ambiguities about a possible participation of Tal in the club World Cup, for which a transfer to Leverkusen would be necessary to use it there.
sports director Christoph Freund praised Tah for his international experience and quality. He emphasized that the player could quickly integrate into the defense series. This is particularly important because Bayer Leverkusen loses a high -quality player again after the departure of coach Xabi Alonso, who has switched to Real Madrid. Rumors also state that Florian Wirtz, another talent of Bayer, is facing a transfer to Liverpool.
Jonathan Tahs career path
Tah started his professional career in the 2013/14 season at Hamburger SV and completed a total of 16 missions in the Bundesliga. After playing for a year at Fortuna Düsseldorf in the 2nd Bundesliga, he switched to Leverkusen in summer 2015, where he quickly established himself as a regular player and finally became German international. He made his debut for the national team against England in March 2016. Last season 2023/24 Tah was indispensable for the master team of Xabi Alonso and scored four goals in 31 Bundesliga missions. Throughout his time at Leverkusen, he completed impressive 402 competitive games.
Max Eberl, sports director of Bavaria, confirmed that Tah had long been on the club's radar and its quality is estimated. Tah's commitment is a significant reinforcement for Bayern who want to continue to compete at the head of the Bundesliga.
Change from Frans Krätzig
While Tah's change makes headlines, Frans also leaves the Bundesliga. The 22-year-old switched to RB Salzburg in Austria with immediate effect, after FC Bayern was loaned to 1. FC Heidenheim in the second half of the 2024/25 season and could not celebrate a breakthrough there. Krätzig, who was trained at the 1st FC Nürnberg, previously played at Austria Vienna and VfB Stuttgart, where he was active in the first round of the 2024/25 season. In total he brings 21 Bundesliga missions to his account with a goal.
With these changes, the clubs show both in the Bundesliga and internationally that they are preparing for the new challenges. The club World Cup, which will take part in RB Salzburg, begins on June 15th. This will certainly also be an interesting time for Jonathan Tah at his new club.
