On Sunday evening, February 16, 2025, there was a tragic fire in an apartment building on Carl-Holtschneider-Straße in Dortmund, in which a 54-year-old man lost his life. The fire brigade was alerted at 10:20 p.m. after tenant had noticed fire smell in the corridors. When it arrived, it turned out that the smoke development came from an apartment on the third floor, where the emergency services found the lifeless man behind a violently opened door. Despite the intensive attempts at resuscitation in the ambulance, the efforts of the paramedics were unsuccessful, and the man still succumbed to his serious injuries at the site, as the Dortmund reported.

The criminal police have taken over the investigation into the cause of the fire, whereby the initial indications of a cell phone charger that could have caught fire in the apartment. This fire was so violent that the bedroom was tortured life -threatening, while the other apartments in the five -storey building were not affected. A mother with her daughter from the attic apartment was taken to a hospital for security, but did not find any serious injuries, according to the Ruhr news .

The fire brigade's extinguishing and rescue work was carried out with a dedicated team of around 46 emergency services over a period of 1.5 hours. During this time, Carl-Holtschneider-Straße between Burgholzstrasse and Schumannstrasse was closed.
