Dortmund in the crisis: Can BVB accomplish the Champions League miracle?
In the excitedly expected Champions League final, Real Madrid prevailed 2-0 against Borussia Dortmund and secured the prestigious title for the 15th time in the club's history. The duel in the Wembley Stadium began, but the Westphalia were superior in the first half and recorded several big opportunities, but could not score a goal. In the 14th minute, Niclas Füllkrug in particular brought the ball just past the goal and also failed before in one-on-one on real goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois. Real Madrid, on the other hand, had no significant possibility in the first half.
second half -time drama
In the second round, the game turned: a corner kick by Toni Kroos led to a header of Dani Carvajal in the 74th minute, which shocked BVB. After this deficit, Dortmund lost control, while Real Madrid took the opportunity to increase to 2-0 by Vinícius Junior (83th minute). Dortmund was unable to find an answer despite intensive efforts, among other things by the substituted Marco Reus, who played his last game for the black yellow. The game ended with a clear victory of the Madrilenen, which thus underpinned their dominance in the Champions League.
The results of the two teams in their previous Champions League match were opposite: after a 3-0 victory against Sporting Lisbon, Dortmund saw himself on the right track, while Real Madrid was under pressure to overcome the group phase of the Champions League. Coach Carlo Ancelotti had spoken of a complicated game before the final, based on the fact that his team in the league recently weakened. He knew that the pressure was high after the team lost the lead to Barcelona, while Dortmund was only in eleventh place in the Bundesliga.
The final shows that despite a strong idea in the first half, BVB ultimately could not raise the necessary consistency. Real Madrid, on the other hand, once again underpinned his status as King of the Champions League, while Dortmund has to wait for the first title of the season after they could not master the national challenges.
