Caution, pickpockets! District Police Coesfeld starts prevention campaign
Coesfeld - A burning concern for the district police authority
Again and again there are reports of pick -up steels that all too often make victims. The Coesfeld Police Directorate has therefore launched an initiative to better inform the public about the risks and protective measures. The emocional weight of theft is often underestimated, but for those affected, the loss of their wallet can not only be annoying, but also extremely stressful.
Especially in busy environments such as supermarkets and markets, people are often distracted, which opens the doorbell. The police warn that the perpetrators specifically take advantage of moments of carelessness to strike quickly and unnoticed.
prevention in focus
The numbers underpin the need for this campaign: In 2023, 251 pickpockets were registered in the district, an increase compared to 229 cases in the previous year. This development shows that both information and preventive measures are urgently required.
important tips for the population
The police give the citizens some essential clues to better protect themselves from pickpockets:
- keep your money, credit cards and important documents in the inner, closed pockets of your clothes and keep them close to the body.
- wear your hand and shoulder bags closed in front of the body or clamp it under your arm to keep them in the field of vision.
- use special bags such as chest bags or money belts that can be carried safely on the body.
- Avoid leaving wallets openly in shopping bags or wagons, but always wear them close to the body.
- be particularly careful in restaurants or shops: do not hang your handbag on stool back or leave it unattended, even while trying on clothes.
The operators of the prevention initiative invite everyone interested to inform themselves personally in the criminal police department. This is in Bernhard-von-Galen-Str. 7a to be found in Coesfeld. The counseling center can be reached by phone at 02541 14 444, and contacting by email is also possible via kkmittelung.coesfeld@polizei.nrw.de. Take the initiative and find out about ways to protect yourself and your values from thefts. Further information on these measures can be found on www.presseportal.de to be found.
