The results of the local elections in Bottrop were also published in parallel to the presentation of Bucksteg. Here there was an exciting head-to-head race, in which SPD candidate Bernd Tischler was able to defend his position as mayor with a remarkable 73.10 % of the votes. Andreas Bucksteg from the FDP came in third place with 6.95 % of the vote, but still has room for improvement. The Bottroper Zeitung also reported a turnout of around 48 %. Bucksteg's challenger, Andrea Swoboda from the Greens, also cut off well with 9.47 %, while the CDU did not provide its own candidate.

The first extrapolation after the option of the polling stations revealed that the votes must now be counted quickly, which also heats up the dynamics of the upcoming Bundestag election. Bucksteg thus has the opportunity to learn from the teachings of the local elections and to optimize its strategy for the upcoming election campaign.
