Customs controls in Münster: Minimum wage tests reveal violations!

The raid on the network of minimum wage controls has started! Around 40 committed customs officers from the Münster main customs office took action and took part in a nationwide examination to comply with the minimum wage regulations. With this huge offensive, the statutory minimum wage, which was raised to an impressive 12.41 euros per hour on January 1, 2024

In a true marathon of the checks, the customs officers checked around 130 people in their companies on this spectacular day of action and asked them about their employment situations. The cities of Borken, Gronau, Ibbenbüren and Münster are at the top of the list! In particular, companies from wholesale and foreign trade, the food industry, the catering industry and washing systems were examined.

The balance is alarming! In 26 cases, irregularities were found, which brings with it the need for further reviews by the main customs office in Münster. Particularly serious: In 14 cases there is suspicion of violations of the payment of the statutory minimum wage! In addition, indications of the withholding of social security contributions were discovered in six other cases, including two cases of bogus self -employment. The abuse of social benefits is now being examined in detail. The customs officers also transferred some violations of the statutory ID management!

"The financial control of undeclared work (FKS) of the customs administration is active all year round and regularly carries out extensive controls to fight undeclared work and illegal employment. Our recent campaign days took place as part of a Europe -wide control campaign by the European Labor Authority (ELA)," explains Britta Flothmann, press officer of the main customs office in Münster. The hunt for those who do not adhere to the rules goes on!
