New flood protection at the Bocholter AA: State -of -the -art technology in use!
Eisenhütte Bocholt, Deutschland - A dramatic new building has started! A new flood protection sheet is being built on the Bocholter AA, in the area of the Eisenhütte, for good reason! The old wall, which has stood since 1953, was partially destroyed in 2017 during construction for the adjacent road bridge. A wall section fell into the AA and left a large hole in the security of the region. Now everything is being made again, and those responsible are determined to raise flood security to a new level!
District Administrator Dr. Kai Zwicker and Mayor Thomas Kerkhoff have personally got an idea of the work. The new wall is built with an innovative process: Instead of ramping the 10 meter long iron sheets into the ground, they are hydraulically pressed. This process minimizes vibrations and ensures that the surrounding buildings are not damaged. The construction site remains calm while the work is progressing.
technical challenges and ecological improvements
The old sheet pile wall no longer corresponded to today's standards. During the review, it turned out that it was not anchored deep enough in the ground. Therefore, a complete new building was necessary to meet the increased requirements for flood protection. The new wall is constructed in such a way that it can withstand floods that only stands statistically every 100 years. In addition, the ecological situation of the Bocholter AA is also improved, with a plant -based planting of the Berm, the area in front of the sheet piling.
The work started on November 5, 2024 and should be completed by the middle of next week. The sheet pile press is then dismantled and the construction company prepares the concrete of the head bar. If everything goes according to plan, the new sheet pile wall will be completed in March 2025. The total costs amount to around 1 million euros, with the state of North Rhine -Westphalia 70 percent and the district of Borken 30 percent. An important step for the security and protection of the region!
