Bomb threat in Niedernhall: Police evacuate education center!

On Thursday morning, January 9th, 2025, the Niedernhall education center was evacuated as a precaution. The trigger for the eviction was a threatening letter that contained a bomb threat via email. Police and explosives detection dogs searched the building but did not find any explosives. The State Criminal Police Office (LKA) assigned the threat in Niedernhall to a nationwide series of similar threats.

In recent months, schools in Baden-Württemberg and other federal states have received similar threats. At least 16 schools in Stuttgart were affected at the end of November. In the Thuringian city of Erfurt, a school also had to be evacuated on the same day after a bomb threat. According to a spokesman for the LKA, the circumstances of the threats indicate a connection, but so far there has been no concrete threat in any of the cases.

Supervision of students and teachers

After the education center was evacuated, around 500 students and teachers were cared for in the nearby town hall. However, classes were able to resume on Thursday afternoon. The investigation into the threats continues daily news reported.

Similar threats had already been received in several schools in Germany on October 23, 2023, including federal states such as Baden-Württemberg, North Rhine-Westphalia, Saxony, Bavaria and Thuringia. For example, the Drais Community School in Karlsruhe was searched due to a threatening email, but no suspicious findings were found. In Bavaria, cities such as Augsburg, Regensburg and Cham were affected, while in Thuringia a community school in Erfurt also received threats.

In North Rhine-Westphalia there were threats against schools in Solingen, Mönchengladbach, Bonn and Wuppertal, without any dangers being identified. The ZDF broadcasting center in Mainz and the Wilhelm Hack Museum in Ludwigshafen also received threats, which led to evictions and searches. A possible connection between these threats and the Middle East conflict is suspected, with a spokesman for the State Ministry of the Interior in North Rhine-Westphalia pointing to anti-Israel motives. The Federal Ministry of the Interior has not yet confirmed such a connection SWR reported.

There have also been numerous bomb threats in France in recent days, including against the Palace of Versailles and airports.
