Maximilian Jansen: From Homburg to lifesaver through stem cell donation!
Maximilian Jansen, a former VfL Bochum player, has attracted a lot of attention with a remarkable gesture. The 31-year-old midfielder of FC 08 Homburg donated stem cells to save life to a seriously ill person. Jansen registered in 2018 in a typing campaign by the German Bone Marrow Donation File (DKMS) and was identified as a genetic twin two months ago. "I knew immediately that I wanted to help. The idea of being able to save someone was simply overwhelming," said the footballer, who used to play at MSV Duisburg and was praised for his solidarity.
a life -saving decision
Jansen’s initiative reflects the spirit of football, in which cohesion and support not only count on the pitch, but also in life outside of the game. FC 08 Homburg is known for its commitment to social campaigns, such as the collaboration with the Stefan Morsch Foundation, which in 2022 called on typing campaigns. Jansen hopes that his example inspires others to register as a potential donor to win the urgently needed stem cell donors.
The meaning of such actions cannot be assessed high enough. When registering as a stem cell donor, everyone has the opportunity to save a person's lives who rely on a transplant. Jansen's decision is an impressive example of social responsibility in sport and shows how athletes can use their awareness to set valuable signs of life. For many, hope for a suitable donor often remains the only way out of a desperate situation.
VfL Bochum II, the reserve team of the association, also has a long history in German football. This was founded in 1975 and the team offers young talents between the ages of 18 and 23, as well as experienced players, a platform, recommended for the first team. Such structures promote the growth and development of players, as can be seen in the career of Jansen. The connection between the roots of a player and his current influence on the life of others is not only fascinating, but also extremely important.
The FC 08 Homburg reacts proactively to social challenges and thus sets that sport can also be decisive outside the football field.
