Göttingen: Parking fees rise - you will have to pay that much soon!
From January 1, 2025, the fees for residents parking cards and for parking on public areas in Göttingen will increase significantly. This increase was politically decided in mid -2024 and will affect the residents. According to the city administration, the residents' parking certificates then cost 120 euros annually, followed by further increasing fees of 150 euros in 2026 and 180 euros in 2027. The new adaptation is based on the average operating costs for parking spaces, which were determined in Göttingen with 211 euros, and thus in accordance with nationwide trends, such as goettingen.de reported.

In addition, the parking fees on public roads rise from the turn of the year. In Parkzone I, the fee is 2.40 euros for an hour, while in Parkzone II it is 1.20 euros for the same time. In certain areas there are even different prices, such as in Zimmermannstrasse, where a day ticket costs 6.50 euros. These measures are part of a larger trend, since many cities in Germany have adapted the fees for residents parking cards, which is supported by the ADAC. The latter emphasizes that the fees should not be aligned solely after the parking space rent in parking garages, such as adac.de explained.
In Germany, the federal states have had sovereignty over the fees for residents' parking certificates since October 2020, which enabled many municipalities to develop their own tariff models. The price range is now enormous: while cities like Bochum stay at 22 euros per year, drivers in Bonn pay up to 360 euros. Several cities are affected with the planned increases in Stuttgart and Cologne. The emerging inquiries for a socially acceptable price setting are in the room, since the rising fees should effectively regulate the parking space in highly frequented areas in order to do justice to residents and visitors.
