Euskirchen plans spectacular photo spot: Where will he stand?

Euskirchen, Deutschland - Euskirchen, the city in the heart of the Eifel, has big plans for a new attraction in the city center: a photo spot that is supposed to attract visitors and locals. In a lively citizens' meeting, in which 1,173 people took part, the city administration provided two designs to vote. The proposal under the name "Oeskerche" was clearly able to prevail. However, the discussion about the right location for this photo spot has not been completed, since feedback from citizens have also been received, which would consider certain locations to be inappropriate or even do without the photo spot, as the Wochenspiegel reported.

The idea behind the photo spot is not only the creation of an Instagram-compatible motif, but also a step to strengthen the city's identity. The administration presents examples from other cities, such as oversized letters that form the place name, such as in Bochum and Ahaus. Silke Winter, department head in the general administration department, underlined in a session that the photo spot should contribute to the “identification with the city of Euskirchen”. However, the location is still open because the city administration plans to commission local marketing agencies to create designs. The best known idea could be the use of the letters "EU". The financing of the project comes from the funding program "Future-capable inner cities and town centers" in the amount of 10,500 euros, such as the Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger informed.

The political factions were mostly positive. Elllen Behrenbeck from the Greens sees the project as a great way to share their experiences and "selfies" for the young population. In contrast, Claudia Hegeler expressed concerns about “Die Part/Die Linke” that the trend towards photo spots may have waned and encouraged alternative projects such as Street Art. Thus, the city faces the challenge of creating a photo spot that corresponds to the current trends and shapes the cityscape sustainably.
