Transports in danger: 77 tons of heavy trucks stopped due to violations!
Rastanlage Lipperland-Nord, 33334 Bielefeld, Deutschland - Bielefeld -traffic safety has a high priority in Germany, and that was recently particularly clear on the Lipperland north of the A2 motorway. On Tuesday, October 8, 2024, the Bielefeld motorway police carried out cooperative traffic controls. This initiative was not only a police commitment, but also involved numerous partners, including the main customs office in Bielefeld, the Federal Office for Logistics and Mobility as well as the food inspectors and the veterinary office of the district of Lippe. The aim of the measures was to increase the security in commercial passenger and freight traffic and to uncover violations of the applicable regulations.
As part of these controls, a total of 37 violations were found. The majority of the violations concerned the social regulations, in particular compliance with steering and rest periods as well as proper load securing. These are essential regulations to ensure that drivers take enough breaks and transport their load safely to minimize the risk of accidents. During the review, the authorities also reported a number of vehicles that were overloaded, which is an additional security risk.
security violations in heavy transport
A particularly sensational incident occurred with a Dutch driver who was traveling with a strong heavy transport. The semitrailer trailer weighed over 77 tons and transported a work machine that was intended for underground pipe laying. According to the regulations for heavy transportation, it is necessary that such transports are equipped with an accompanying vehicle that other road users indicate the danger through warning signs and lighting. Living locations with overtaking bans, especially on bridges, require such a companion to minimize the stress on the infrastructure.
In this special case, it turned out that the legally prescribed passenger was missing in the towing vehicle. This resulted in the police prohibited the continued drive of the vehicle. An appropriate response from the company was necessary - another person had to be sent to the place of stopping in order to meet the legal requirements. The Dutch driver paid a security deposit of 150 euros for the violation, and the same was for the responsible company, which was also occupied with a security deposit.
call for responsibility in road traffic
The Bielefeld police take this opportunity to appeal to both private individuals and traders, to take part in road traffic responsibly. The call is clear and direct: A pronounced sense of responsibility can help to avoid traffic accidents and prevent the associated bad consequences for participants and relatives. The controls on Tuesday show clearly how important it is to comply with all regulations to be safe and intact on the street.
