Bundesstraße 61 in Herford: full closure from Monday - diversions set up!

Herford/Bielefeld. Shock for the drivers! From Monday, December 2, Bundesstraße 61 between Laarer Straße (L923) and the Hollinder Weg will be completely closed. Over 24,000 vehicles that use this route every day have to adjust to massive diversions!

The drastic measure is considered necessary by streets NRW to renovate the approximately two -kilometer route. The construction site should be completed in just two weeks, but the inconveniences for the commuters are already noticeable. The diversions are already signposted and lead over the Milser (L779), Altenhagener and Elverdisser Straße (L778). Drivers from Herford and the B239 can turn into Laarer Straße during construction. Pedestrians and cyclists are allowed to cross Laarer Straße using a construction site light.

The B61 - an important traffic artery

The B61 is not just a street, but a central north-south connection through East Westphalia-Lippe! It extends from Bassum in Lower Saxony to Rheda-Wiedenbrück and crosses important cities such as Bielefeld and Herford. Around 9.3 million cars are counted on the B61 in Herford every year. In the last count of streets of North Rhine -Westphalia in 2020, an average of 18,850 vehicles per day were registered on the B61 (driveway to the Herford bypass). The numbers are alarming: On the Ostwestfalendamm in Bielefeld, 68,904 vehicles were counted every day in 2022!

The upcoming construction work is just the beginning! Next year there will be further renovations of the B239 arms and departure arms. "The regional branch East Westphalia-Lippe will inform about it early," promises the press office of streets NRW. The traffic situation in the region will continue to change!
