Friedeburg's new sports facility: Where are the toilets for the children?

The redesigned sports facility in Friedeburg catches the eye - bright green lawn, dazzling gates and a tartan track that is second to none! After around 14 months of construction and costs of around 3.415 million euros, the facility presents itself in new splendor. But the first impression is deceptive: Important facilities are missing, and the users are bubbling!

The anticipation for use was great! There is now a new shot put and long jump facility as well as a high jump and a basketball field. The highlight: a brand new artificial turf pitch with LED floodlight facility! This is used by the students of the school "Altes Amt Friedeburg" and the local clubs, including more than 150 young people who are enthusiastic about football who train every week. But where is the promised multifunctional room? "We were told at the beginning of a planned space," complains Deeke Carls from the board of TuS Strudden. However, the room was not implemented, which is a thorn in the side of the footballers.

inadequate storage and toilet problems

The clubs must accommodate their material - for more than ten teams - in a tiny garage that is completely inadequate. "A room with changing opportunities, sales area and material warehouse would be the ideal place for us," says Carls. A fence separates the garage from the sports area, which also makes use more difficult. The toilet situation is also catastrophic! Athletes only have access to the toilets in the school's large sports hall, which can only be entered with a transponder chip - and it only belongs to the coaches! "In the past, the athletes could go to the toilet from the outside, not anymore," said coach Jonah Meeske. The main toilets are no longer open to the public, which is a major problem for the little kickers.

Hope for quick solutions

The clubs think creatively and consider to use the toilets of the adjacent outdoor pool or to enter the small sports hall, which is leased to TV Friedeburg. "There are several toilet facilities nearby," says Meeske. But until a solution is found, there could still be some “wild pinklers” on the new sports facility if the little ones do not know where to go with their need! The athletes are urgently dependent on a solution, because a new sports center should also offer adequate access to sanitary facilities!
