Wilhelmshaven teachers bring hope in Kenya: Education against poverty!
In an impressive commitment to education, Wiebke Endres from Wilhelmshaven launched the association "Teachers Without Borders" three years ago. Now, together with her colleague Ulrike Prize, she has attended the partner schools in Kenya to get an idea of the precarious situation of children and schools on site. Instead of luxurious tourist paths, the dusty streets of Mombasa were on the program. For ten days, the two teachers explored the living conditions especially of the school children and experienced the bitter extent of poverty up close.
The primary school in Lonii, an orphanage, is the association's first project. Over 300 children are taught here who often have nothing to eat. "The only meals take place here at school," reports Endres. The children often wear broken shoes or none at all, a sign of their dramatic living conditions. The teachers are determined to give the students a real chance of overcoming poverty by Educação

The headmistress revealed that the school's roof is affected because of termites and urgently needs to be repaired. Donations are required so that the building does not collapse. The teachers promote real opportunities for young people who strive for a degree in secondary schools. "Every child who receives education is important," explains Prize and emphasizes that all administrative costs are borne by the teachers themselves. The association has currently provided new school books for the primary school in Likoni and remains determined to help actively - no cent is issued for other purposes.
With an alarming number, we know that around 260 million children are without access to education worldwide. This state remains unsustainable for endres and price. "It is terrifying that even after more than 60 years of child right to education, we continue to have so many children without basic schooling," summarize the teachers the need for their work. They are determined to raise awareness of the challenges in Kenya and continue to work for better education for children.
