Reconciliation through memory: Wilhelmshaven starts donation collection week
In Wilhelmshaven, an important week of reconciliation and memory begins! The donation collection week of the Volksbund Deutsche Wargräberfürsorge e. V. has officially started and aims to collect funds in order to grasp and maintain the graves of German war stages abroad. This initiative is not only an act of commemoration, but also a step to promote peace between former enemies.
The opening event took place in the North Sea passage, where representatives from the council, administration, the Bundeswehr and committed citizens gave the starting signal. Pupils from the Cäcilienschule, the Marion-Dönhoff School and the new high school are ready to pull from door to door to collect donations for this important work. The Volksbund, a registered non -profit association, rely on the support of sponsors and donors to meet its mission. A small part of the financing comes from public funds, but the majority are applied by the annual collections.

frigate captain Rolf Hoppe, the base commander, emphasizes the importance of this collection: "In the coming week, members of the Bundeswehr will post them in various places in the city and ask for donations." The Volksbund has committed itself to preserving the memory of the fallen soldiers and maintaining the graves abroad. He also promotes the formation and encounter of young people at these resting places. "The Volksbund stands for reconciliation between former enemies and peaceful coexistence," added Hoppe.
