Rheinstraße primary school: Dewi building will be expanded in 2026!

Wilhelmshaven, Deutschland - Wilhelmshaven -finally the time has come! The Rheinstraße primary school can look forward to an urgently needed expansion. From this year, the former Dewi building will be converted into a modern school building in order to meet the requirements of all-day operation. The new school site should be completed by March 1, 2026 at the latest, Bodo Behnke from FDS Immobilien assures. The pressure is great, but the company plans to complete the work before the appointment.

The city of Wilhelmshaven awarded the conversion of the Dewi building to a private investor after an economic audit showed the financial advantages. City building council Niksa Marusic said that tax advantages for the renovation of the individual building monument only apply to private companies. The way to the tender was long, but FDS real estate prevailed with the best offer. Managing Director Behnke is optimistic about the project: "It is a great task to design such a beautiful building in this exposed area."

The headmistress of the primary school, Andrea Oltmanns, can hardly wait. "It was a long way," she says, while thinking of the overcrowded classrooms in which specialist rooms have currently been converted to accommodate all 300 students. The hope of conversion of the Dewi building was an unfulfilled dream for a long time, as it initially served as refugee accommodation. But now, with the start of the renovation work this year, she finally sees light at the end of the tunnel: "It is not only important for school, it is a huge step for the whole neighborhood."
