Middle East conflict: Prof. Wörtz warns of further bad news!

In the Gorch-Fock-Haus in Wilhelmshaven, the dark reality of the Middle East conflict was illuminated! Prof. Dr. Eckart Wörtz, a renowned historian and director of the Giga Institute for Middle East Studies, spoke about the roots and the development of this conflict, which has been in decades. The lecture took place as part of an event of the Society for Security Policy (GSP), and the audience was visibly affected by the alarming facts that Wörtz presented.

The conflict between Israel and Palestine, which has been on May 14, 1948 since Israel's declaration of independence, has been dramatically intensified in recent years. Wörtz made it clear that as a scientist, he saw no hope of a two-state solution and referred to the emotional reactions that the conflict in Europe, the USA and the Arab world causes. "The conflict Situation has shifted to the Golf region since the 1980s," said the 55-year-old. He pointed out that political Zionism would have been unthinkable without the European nationalism of the 19th century and highlighted the historical discrimination against the Jews that began in the 19th century.

Palestinians without civil rights

Wörtz explained that the idea of a return to the country of the fathers of Theodor Herzl was the only solution in his book “The Jewish State”, while there were also alternative plans for a state foundation in Uganda. The British mandate administration after the First World War created the basis for today's Palestine, which had not previously had its own administrative district in the Ottoman Empire. The 1917 Balfour declaration promised the Jews a home, but the rights of the non-Jewish population were not taken into account. The historian found that five million Palestinians live in Israel without civil rights and 70 percent of the population are Palestinians in the neighboring Arab countries - an explosive mix for future conflicts.

No interest in Middle East conference

The geopolitical tensions increased after the Suez crisis in 1956 and the six-day war in 1967 when Israel conquered East Jerusalem. Wörtz criticized the transformation of Israel from a socialist-acular society to religious Zionism and the establishment of a wall in the West Bank, which further tightened the situation. "The two -state solution is a good lip service," says Wörtz, who also referred to the arrogance of the Israeli secret service Mossad, which led to the brutal attack of Hamas. According to Wörtz, a confederation between Israel and Palestine could be the best solution, but he saw neither in Israel nor in the USA interest in a Middle East conference. The worrying view of massive displacement waves from Palestine remains.
