After 37 years: Jürgen Sechstroh says goodbye as a choir director!
In the heart of Wilhelmshavens there is a noticeable loss, because Jürgen Sechstroh, who worked as a choir director of the Male Choir North Sea for over 37 years, is now withdrawing. At the age of 80, his passion for music remains unbroken, but for health reasons he sees himself forced to vacate his place. This decision is not easy for him: "It just didn't work anymore," explains the experienced musician, who made a name for himself as a passionate choir director and teacher.
sixstroh, whose musical roots extend into childhood, comes from a very musical parents' house. Born in Wildeshausen in 1944, his family soon moved back to the Jadestadt. His general directorate for music begins at an early age when he learns the piano and receives important knowledge of reading and music theory from his music teacher. During his majority as a choir director, he inspired many talented singers and introduced to music.
a life for the music
particularly formative for six -straw musical career was the time at the music academy in Hanover, where he learned both the craft of choral ratio and composing. He used this knowledge in various choirs for decades. His commitment began in the Wilhelmshaven folk choir, to which he was a member of the board for four decades. In 1987 he took over the management of the male choir and was able to successfully combine both choirs until his farewell.
sixstroh is known for making the programs varied and modern. In the course of his career, he integrated new genres such as pop songs and folk music into the repertoire of his choir - a brave step at a time when many were skeptical about him. "Some may have bumped their noses first, but we were really well received by the audience," he noted proudly.
The role of sport
But the music was not the only passion in six straw life. In addition to his career as a music teacher, he also worked in sports subjects. From handball to volleyball to football - the promotion of team sports is important to him. Unfortunately, due to serious health problems at the age of 39, he had to hire his sporting activities. "I fell into a hole," he admits. Nevertheless, his wife Renate supported him in all his efforts, and he is grateful for that. "She always supported and encouraged me."
Looking back, Jürgen Sixstroh is looking at his decision to lead the male choir as one of the best of his life. He recently lived in a nursing home where he can still pass on the joy of music. Once a week he sings old folk songs with up to 40 seniors. "It is so much fun," he says and describes that music is an indispensable livelihood for him. This joy is affected by a current injury: six straw has broken the right hand, which severely limits its ability to play an instrument. "It's really difficult for me," he says, visibly moved by the situation. Despite these obstacles, his connection to music remains strong, and he wonders what would have become of his life if he hadn't chosen the musical path.
"Maybe professional athlete would be the only one that would have been possible," he concludes with a smile. Jürgen Sixstroh hurries a heir in the North Sea men's choir, which will be felt far into the future.
