Kneipp Association Garbsen explores the Wilhelmshaven marine paradise!
With a lot of anticipation and vigor, around 45 members of the Kneipp Association Garbsen made their way to the fascinating naval base Wilhelmshaven on October 16, 2024. So close to frigates and supply ships, they experienced an exciting discovery tour that offered them an impressive insight into the world of German Navy. They were welcomed by a former naval member who previously served in the diving group and who led them through the impressive base.
A look behind the scenes of the marine
In a two -hour bus ride through the extensive systems, the participants learned everything about the traditional history and the current challenges of the largest Bundeswehr site. With 38 lock-independent berths that extend along a four-kilometer pier, Wilhelmshaven is a linchpin of the navy, even if there are currently only a few ships in the port due to the global political situation. In addition, security reasons did not allow the bus to get out of the bus, which impaired the exploration.
The central repair shipyard, also called marine arsenal, attracted special attention. The sea lock here is not only the largest in Germany, but also the second largest worldwide. In addition to these imposing facilities, innovative departments such as the Bundeswehr logistics center and a medical center are also located at the naval base, all of which play a key role in military operation.
a successful end
After the eventful tour, the group returned to the “Le Patron” restaurant on the southern beach of Wilhelmshaven, where a delicious buffet was waiting for them. Full of new impressions, the participants took a relaxing walk along the beach promenade before taking the return trip to Garbsen with a coffee break in the North Sea healing pool in Dangast. In the evening return - safely and full of maritime memories, everyone rated the excursion as extremely successful!
