German exports rise easily: USA and China in focus!

Wilhelmshaven, Deutschland - The German exports recorded a remarkable increase of 0.5 percent to an impressive 384.0 billion euros in the third quarter of 2024! But not everything is rosy: exports to the EU member states have dropped by 1.0 percent to 204.8 billion euros, which raises questions. The decline in goods deliveries into the euro zone, which has fallen 1.5 percent to 141.9 billion euros, is particularly dramatic. In the meantime, exports to countries outside the EU were able to increase by 2.2 percent to 179.1 billion euros.

Among the most important trading partners within the EU there were some surprises. Exports to France fell by 2.5 percent to EUR 27.6 billion, and the Netherlands also had to accept a decline from 0.8 percent to EUR 26.7 billion. On the other hand, the increase in exports to Poland was 2.8 percent to 23.2 billion euros. The United States remains the most important trading partner outside the EU, with an increase in exports by 3.8 percent to 41.4 billion euros. In contrast, China recorded a decline from 9.4 percent to 21.8 billion euros.

imports show mixed results

German imports rose slightly by 0.3 percent to 327.9 billion euros in the third quarter of 2024. But here too there is a decline in imports from the EU, which has dropped by 1.8 percent to 168.9 billion euros. The decline in imports from the euro zone is particularly striking by 2.1 percent to 112.1 billion euros. In contrast, imports from third countries increased by 2.6 percent to EUR 159.0 billion, with China remaining the most important trading partner with an increase of 6.1 percent to 40.5 billion euros.

The numbers show a mixed picture of the German trade landscape in the third quarter. While exports have increased in total, there are significant declines in important markets that attract the attention of the economic experts. Developments in international trade relationships remain crucial for the future economic stability of Germany.
