Berne accepts green waste: fees and new acceptance point from 2025!
The municipality of Berne now has the green light for the acceptance of green waste! After the recycling center was closed in Ranzenbüttel, which took place on March 31, a decisive cooperation agreement between the district and the municipality was concluded. This means that Berne not only assumes the responsibility for the disposal of garden and green waste, but can also charge fees for it. A real profit for the environment and the citizens!
The manager of the Wesermarsch waste disposal, Hans Conze-Wichmann, made it clear at the last meeting of the company committee that there is no legal concerns about this transfer. This was based on a legal assessment by lawyer Stefan Gries, who was consulted by the waste management company. Despite the initial doubts by MPs who questioned the legality of the measure, the decision was made. The district council of CDU, Bündnis 90/Die Grünen and FDP had previously directed a request to the district administration in order to obtain clarity about the transfer of this important task.
new acceptance point from 2025
From January 1, 2025, the new acceptance point in Berne will be open three days a week. The entire processing will be carried out by the municipality itself, which receives an annual cost flat rate of 22,000 euros from the district. This sum is intended for personnel and material expenses and is adjusted by a price sliding clause. The municipality also plans that the fees can only be paid in cashless, which requires a change in the existing statutes to waste management. Conze-Wichmann has already stimulated a change of statutes to enable this new regulation.
