Celebrate 25 years of the Verden City Library with a unique reading festival!
Holzmarkt 7, 27283 Verden, Deutschland - The Verden City Library celebrates a special anniversary: 25 years ago, it moved to its current premises on the wood market. This important occasion is recognized with a reading festival that will take place on Saturday, October 19. Library manager Stefan Kaplon has put together an exciting program in which six authors present in two successive readings from their new works.
"The doors are open - visitors can come and go when they want," explains Kaplon, who was inspired by the Leipzig reading night. The concept stipulates that the audience can freely decide which reading you want to visit. Kaplon hopes for a positive response to offer the format annually.
A mixture of new voices
The authors' line-up consists exclusively of young writers whose books are published this year. The topics range from social criticism to personal fates to humorous stories. An outstanding title is "Now is Sense" by Hans Rath, who deals with death and his role in a psychologist in a humorous way. Kaplon describes it as a refreshing mixture of entertainment and sharp analysis of human conditions.
Martin Brecker is devoted to “the workers” of childhood in a working and tradition-oriented environment, while Sina Scherzants “tumbled” the search for a missing girl and highlights the dynamics of new relationships between the seekers. Stefan Sommer's “Trabant” has a complex family history on the basis, and Louise Pelt's “The Half Value of Glück” is philosophically dealing with happiness. Thea Mengeler's book "After the ferries" presents life on an island affected by economic difficulties, possibly inspired by pandemeine -related challenges.
Flexible participation is welcome
The structure of each reading enables guests to design their visits individually. Due to the overlaps, it is not possible to fully experience every reading. However, visitors can switch to a different reading at any time, which makes the atmosphere pleasantly flexible. Kaplon calms the visitors because all authors are familiar with the idea of spontaneous coming and walking. "You know what to get involved," he says with a smile.
The city library in Verden has changed a lot since moving 25 years ago. Kaplon emphasizes that you have to take time in modern libraries and adapt to the changing media usage behavior. So visitors not only find books, but also board games, digital media and a variety of other offers that meet the requirements of today's users.
The previous location under the direction of Elisabeth Müller is now a long time ago. The move to the former cavalry barracks on the wooden market was an important step that led the library to a new era. In addition to a broader selection of literature, digital media such as videos and games should also be available. These changes were not only planned, but also successfully implemented.
The city library has now developed into a “library of things”. In addition to the conventional media, visitors can also borrow everything from power banks to tonie boxes to thermal imaging cameras. Events such as repair cafes and readings enliven the cultural life on the wood market and make the library a center for community and exchange of knowledge.
The reading festival begins on Saturday, October 19, at 6 p.m. in the city library, Holzmarkt 7. Tickets are available in advance for 20 euros, while at the box office the price is 25 euros.
