Consultation of tariffs: metal industry in Lower Saxony unifies!
In the tariff dispute of the metal and electrical industry in Lower Saxony, an agreement is reached! After a marathon of 18 hours of negotiations, IG Metall and the employers have achieved a pilot degree, which is now also to be taken over in Lower Saxony. The employers' association Lower Saxony metal announced that the takeover of the conclusion for Friday, November 22nd is planned. IG Metall will comment on developments in the afternoon in Hanover.
Details on the pilot degree
The pilot completion that was achieved in Hamburg stipulates that salaries in two stages increase by a total of 5.1 percent. The first increase of 2 percent comes into force on April 1, 2025, followed by a further increase of 3.1 percent on April 1, 2026. However, for companies that are in difficulties, there is the possibility to suspend or delete certain payments. Despite the wage increase, the collective agreement has a long term of 25 months, which means that the annual increase in wages is less than 3 percent. IG Metall originally demanded 7.0 percent in one year.
Volker Schmidt, General Manager of Lower Saxony Metall, commented concerns about the challenges that this tariff conclusion brings for many companies, especially in the automotive supplier industry. "In view of the overall desolate situation of our companies, the tariff is finished to the limit of resilience," says Schmidt. Nevertheless, he sees the long term of 25 months as an advantage because it offers the company planning security by the end of 2026.
