Electricity prices explode: Dark doldrums and traffic lights provide chaos!
Berlin, Deutschland - In Germany there is an alarm mood! A dramatic 'dark flaut' catapulted electricity prices on a shocking record high. While the sun is hiding and the wind stands out, the electricity from wind power and solar systems also fails. Last week, the stock market price was over 800 euros per megawatt hour - an increase that hits consumers and industrial companies alike. Those with dynamic tariffs that now have to pay horrendous prices are particularly affected, while the prices were previously 60 to 80 euros.
The causes are clear: If the demand for electricity is high, but production remains low due to the dark lipids, the prices explode. Wind turbines stood still for days, and the photovoltaic systems could not compensate for the lack of energy. This led to a dramatic increase in wholesale prices that shake the entire industry. Bruno Burger from the Fraunhofer Institute explains that in summer there are also phases in which electricity prices become negative when the supply exceeds demand. But now the situation is anything but rosy.
price shock due to the lack of renewable energies
The dependence on gas and coal-fired power plants is becoming increasingly clear, as they have to fill the gaps when renewable energies fail. But the prices for natural gas have increased significantly in recent months, which further tightens the situation. The Federal Government had planned a power plant security law to build new gas power plants and modernize existing systems. But after the traffic light coalition from the traffic light coalition, this important project is on the brink. Federal Minister of Economics Robert Habeck warns: "The Federal Government no longer has its own majority, and therefore one cannot assume that these laws still achieve legal strength." The future of energy supply in Germany is uncertain, and consumers have to be prepared for further price shocks!
