in Esterholz, at the lower gate of the Uelzen II lock, has been a significant renovation project since Monday! The worn camps are renewed, and it has it all: the work should be completed by mid -December and cost a whopping 450,000 euros. A real effort for the waterway and shipping offices!
The two solid stem -gate wings, each with a weight of 85 tons, are excavated with a crane and parked in the lock chamber. This measure is necessary after strange noises and stubbornness were found two years ago when operating the lock gates and a stubbornness. To change the camps, the gates must now be expanded. During the work, shipping traffic on the Elbe side channel is redirected via the Uelzen I lock, and the visitor platform remains closed during the renovation.
technical Details of the renovation
The Schleuse II, which was put into operation in 2006, overcomes a height difference of 23 meters. Impressive 59,000 cubic meters of water must be moved for a single locking process! In order to save water and reduce the pump costs, about 70 percent of this amount of water is collected in the sideways arranged on the side. The smuggling itself takes around 15 minutes and is controlled by a newly built key center in Anderten, near Hanover. Voral operation is also possible.
