Warm return: Princess Madeleine inspires with family visits!

Christopher O'Neill (50) has been married to Princess Madeleine of Sweden (42) since 2013. Together the couple has three children: Princess Leonore (10), Prince Nicolas (9) and Princess Adrienne (6). O'Neill was born in London in 1974 and is the son of Eva O'Neill (84, born Walter) and Paul Cesario O’Neill († 2004). He has five semi -sisters and is the only child of Eva O'Neill.

Originally Christopher O'Neill was supposed to bear Nicolas, which his mother suggested. However, his father disagreed and insisted that he was called Christopher. A similar choice of name was also observed by the couple's son: Princess Madeleine chose the name Nicolas, while his second names Paul and Gustaf serve as a homage to his grandfathers.

return to Sweden and family life

Madeleine and Christopher O'Neill have been living in Sweden again with their children since the summer of 2024 after spending six years in Florida. In an interview with TV4, Princess Madeleine said positively about the familiarization of her children in Stockholm.

The wedding of Princess Madeleine and Christopher O’Neill took place on June 8, 2013 in Stockholm. Madeleine is the second daughter and the youngest child of King Carl XVI. Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden and is currently seventh place in the succession of the throne. Before that, she was engaged to the Swedish lawyer Jonas Bergström, but the engagement was dissolved in 2010.

After moving to New York City, she met Christopher O’Neill. Her commitment was announced on October 25, 2012. The wedding was financed both publicly and privately, the total costs were estimated at an estimated 3 million crowns. The ceremony took place in the chapel of the Royal Palace of Stockholm and was led by Lars-Göran Lönnermark and Michael Bjerkhagen.

Madeleine wore a wedding dress by Valentino Garavani and a private tiara. Her father, King Carl XVI. Gustaf, accompanied them up to half the passage. After the wedding, Madeleine did not accept the surname O’Neill to keep the title "Royal Highness", while Christopher O’Neill did not seek royal status and remained as a private citizen. He kept his British and American citizenship as well as his position in New York City.

The couple's children must be brought up in Sweden as Lutherans in order to be able to assert claims on the succession of the throne. On October 7, 2019, the king said that the royal title of the children were withdrawn from Madeleine, but they remain in the succession of the throne. In August 2018 it became known that the family would move to Florida. Numerous members of the royal families took part in the wedding, which further increased public attention.
