Decrypit written secrets: Free course in the sponsorship museum!
The sponsorship museum "Goldap in East Prussia" in Stade offers a unique opportunity for those who want to learn more about German script. In an upcoming course entitled "We learn the German Scripture", the experienced teacher Kurt Thomsen from the Himmelpforten school museum will bring the art of reading and writing closer to the participants in this special script. This event will take place on October 31st and November 2 at 2.30 p.m. in the museum and participation is free of charge.
Learning German Scripture has a special meaning for many history -interested and family researchers, since many historical documents, including old family documents and church records, are written in this script. Annelies Trucewitz, the museum director, emphasizes the challenges that this fact brings for many people. Participants are invited to bring their own documents or documents to practice them as part of the course.
background to the German Scripture
The German Scripture, which was first introduced in schools in Lower Saxony in 1925, plays a subordinate role in education today, so that many people are no longer able to read this font. Nevertheless, it is of historical importance, and the course in the sponsorship museum not only offers a learning opportunity, but also a way to deal with regional history.
The sponsorship museum itself is an important place to preserve the history of the Goldap region until 1945. The collection includes objects that document cultural and social life and also offers a comprehensive library with literature on the history of East Prussia. Visitors can also access contemporary witness reports in video form to get an even deeper insight into the past.
The sponsorship of the museum is located at the Stade district and the Goldap district. The importance of this institution is also evident in the history of the sponsorship, which was founded in 1952 when the Stade district assumed responsibility for the Goldap East Prussian district. Many of the then displaced people found a new home in the district of Stade after the Second World War.
Annelies Trucewitz points out that the capacities for the course are limited and that prior registration is recommended. Interested parties can register by email to museum@goldap.de or by phone at 04142/5552.
