General overhaul of the Strahover Organs: Mozart's heir is saved!
Strahov, Prag, Tschechische Republik - in Prague there is an important renovation project in the Premonstratensian Abbey Strahov. The two organs in the impressive collegiate church are subjected to comprehensive general overhaul. Especially the big organ, where the famous composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart played in autumn 1787, urgently needed renovation work. As Kathpress reports, the organs are in a miserable condition due to financial bottlenecks and earlier work with inferior materials. The restoration has now been awarded to the experienced organ builder Joachim Stade from Waltershausen. After completing the work, the organ will sound with 1092 new pipes, whereby the historical housing is preserved.
renovation with a cultural background
The financing for this ambitious project is taken over by the "Royal Canonia of Premonstrates on the Strahov", while the other half is to be applied by a public collection. Abbot Daniel Janacek expressed himself optimistically and emphasized the cultural and historical importance of the organs for the region. The Strahov Abbey is not only architecturally impressive, but also has a rich collection of works of art and religious objects that have been compiled over the centuries. The treasury of the abbey is also supplemented by extensive attics and archives, as reported on the official website of the Strahover Kanonie.
After the turn of 1989, the historical assets of the abbey were restituted, as was the case with the return and digitization of the valuable collections, including the famous Strahover library. These efforts have contributed to the fact that the cultural heritage of the abbey is also preserved for future generations. The abbey, founded in 1143, has never completely recovered from the deeper wounds that have suffered its history through communism, but with these renovations it now comes into a new phase of its history.
