Blood emergency: Lecture in the Elbe Clinic Stade on life-saving measures
The Elbe Klinikum Stade organizes a public lecture entitled "Blood, a very special juice". This will take place on Monday, October 14, at 6 p.m. in the lecture room of the hospital. The lecture is made by Professor Dr. med. Ole Broch, chief physician at the clinic for anesthesia and operational intensive care medicine. He also has responsibility for the Center for Palliative Medicine and will not only address the topic of blood consumption in medicine, but also the associated challenges.
blood plays a crucial role in medical care, but it is a limited resource. With constant consumption of monitoring blood, coupled to demographic changes and specific criteria for blood donors, bottlenecks could soon occur. This fact is alarming when you consider that about 25 percent of the global population suffer from anemia, i.e. anemia. This health impairment significantly increases the likelihood of complications during operations. Usually anemia are caused by iron or vitamin deficiency.
importance of the lecture
The lecture by Professor Dr. Broch will particularly emphasize the importance of strengthening the body's own blood reserves. Suitable measures can often be dispensed with, which not only improves the therapy result, but also reduces potential risks. In the course of the lecture, the concept of patient blood management (PBM) is discussed, which aims to optimize the blood volume of patients in the perioperative period. This includes various strategies that can help to counteract anemia and to minimize the need for donor blood.
