On October 3, 2024, a memorable event took place: Around 300 invited guests gathered in a symbolic place, the L’En Union printing company, to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the journal. At this special celebration, Géraldine Baehr-Pastor, the managing director of Rossel Est Média, emphasized the significant history of the newspaper. "We are the heirs of those who fought for their freedom. We stand for freedom, commitment and closeness. We are the storytellers," she said.
The celebration was added by the words of Bernard Marchant, the President of the Rossel Group, who emphasized the timeless values such as autonomy, pluralism and independence: "L’En Union is closely associated with these values," he said. This brought the historical context to life, which forms the basis of the publication.
relationships with the region
The presence of Catherine Vautrin, the Minister of Partnerships with the regions and decentralization, which not only addressed her personal connection to the newspaper since 1983, but also underlined the importance of the regional press: "We do not always agree, but that is exactly what makes the press freedom," she noticed. With a look into the future, Vautrin expressed the desire to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the newspaper.
In order to emphasize the festive occasion, the Stade de Reims presented a jersey set, which was signed by all players, with number 80. Mathieu Lacour, the managing director of the association, spoke of the close connections between the club and the newspaper. This increased interaction between sports and the press shows how deeply the roots of L’Enunion are anchored in the community.
Another highlight of the evening was the unveiling of a wall painting by the renowned, local artist Julien Maillot, better known as LGM-1, which reflects the artistic cooperation between the city and the press. This, together with a festive birthday cake, created a warm, celebrated atmosphere that reflected the spirit of the community.
The anniversary of L’En Union is not only a look back, but also celebrates the incessant struggle for the freedom of the press and its important place in society. "We are here to share and celebrate the stories and the challenges that lie ahead of us," concluded Baehr-Pastor and confirmed the responsibility that the media bear.
The story of L’Enion reflects the development of a critical voice that not only spreads news, but also emphasizes the values of autonomy and independence in the geographical context of France. Festures like this are therefore not only a look back at the successes, but also a call to continue the tradition to inform the local population comprehensively and honestly.
