Cannabis on prescription: pharmacists show lucrative profits in Lower Saxony!

The new cannabis law of the Federal Government not only affects leisure consumption, but also on the medical market. Since the law amendment, cannabis has no longer been led as anesthetic, which leads to a significant increase in prescriptions for medical cannabis. Frank Sipert, a pharmacist from Lower Saxony, is one of the few who benefits from this business.

Sipert operates pharmacies in Salzgitter and Wolfenbüttel and has started the submission of medical cannabis since May 2024. "This is a lucrative business," he says enthusiastically. Via his mail order pharmacy easycannabis.de, he sells around 30 kilograms of cannabis to patients and calculates that he generates an average of 200 euros in sales per order. Calculated to the month, there is a raw profit of around 50,000 euros. After deducting the costs, such as for staff and packaging material, he has a profit of 30,000 euros. This sum shows that the business with medical cannabis proves to be very rewarding for him.

Siepert emphasizes the advantages that arise for pharmacists who enter the medical cannabis market. Despite the political uncertainties around the cannabis law, he is convinced that the establishment of the medical area is inevitable. "Dealing with medical cannabis belongs in the hands of the pharmacists," he explains and sees other sales channels as not necessary.

First, a controlled tax in licensed shops was provided in the coalition agreement. Health Minister Karl Lauterbach had also promised a two-pillar model. This model provided for the sale in pharmacies and in special shops. So far, however, no draft law has been presented to implement this second pillar, which has increased skepticism in politics. Representatives from Lauterbach's party recently expressed concerns whether these promises can still be realized. Two summer breaks have now passed without progress.

Sipert remains optimistic that the medical field will continue to develop and recommends that other pharmacist colleagues to also enter the business with medical cannabis. This positive attitude could also encourage other pharmacists to take similar paths to use the advantages of the newly created market.
