Warning strikes in Lower Saxony: IG Metall demands 7% more wages!

Osnabrück, Deutschland - The IG Metall has expanded the warning strikes in the metal and electrical industry! On November 6, 2024, the work is laid down in Lower Saxony, especially in Osnabrück. Among the companies concerned are heavyweights such as Volkswagen and Siemens. The union mobilizes at least 2,000 strikes to a large rally, while protest trains from the VW plant and the copper processor KME move to the union house. There is also a strike in other cities such as Hameln and Osterode. IG Metall relies on the employer to put pressure on these actions in order to achieve better conditions in the upcoming negotiating rounds.

massive protest actions in the north

Since the end of the peace obligation on October 29, the strikes in the north have been in full swing. Around 17,000 employees have already participated in the actions in the district of Lower Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt. Especially in the area of IG Metall coast, the Schleswig-Holstein, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Hamburg and Bremen, around 25,000 people took to the streets by Tuesday. A "coastal action day" stands for next Thursday on the agenda, in which the work is put down across the board and numerous demonstrations and rallies take place.

claims and reactions

IG Metall demands a wage increase of seven percent for 12 months and 170 euros more for trainees. However, employers have made an offer of 3.6 percent in two levels over 27 months. Lower Saxony Metal boss Volker Schmidt emphasizes that the union's demands do not fit into the current economic situation and appeals to the negotiating partners to approach each other. Negotiations between IG Metall and the employers are to be continued on November 11th in Hamburg. The situation is tense and the union is determined to fight for the rights of the employees!
