Mürzzuschlag becomes Green City: New PV systems on parking garages!

In Mürzzuschlag, the construction of a new photovoltaic system on the roof of the municipal parking garage has set new standards. The 10 kWP system, which was installed in connection with an existing green roof, has the potential to deliver around 8,000 kWh of electricity annually. Mayor Karl Rudischer said that thanks to attractive support, the city was able to quickly amortize the investment and thus achieve direct savings for the operation of the parking garage. In addition, photovoltaic systems were also installed on the roofs of the Toni Cerration elementary school and the Peter Rosegger middle school, which leads to a crucial step towards sustainable energy generation, according to Rudischer. According to his remarks, Mürzzuschlag can already be considered a green city, equipped with over 90 percent renewable energy sources from district heating and wind turbines in the region.

The operators of the OPG also drive the energy transition forward in Osnabrück. On November 24, 2024, the new 100 kW photovoltaic system will be put into operation on the roof of the college wall garage. As reported by PARKEN-OSNABRUECK.de , the OPG can cover more than 80 percent of the annual power requirement of the parking garage itself. The system is said to generate approximately 85,000 kWh of solar power annually and thus save around 40 tons of CO2 emissions. OPG Managing Director Volker Hänsler emphasizes that the investment of 160,000 euros makes sense in view of the increasing energy costs.

The commissioning of the PV system requires a temporary closure of the college wall garage on November 24 between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. Drivers are asked to use alternative parking in the city center. These developments are not only a progress in the technical equipment of parking garages, but also underline the increasing importance of sustainable energy concepts in urban rooms.
