Strike in Oldenburg: Bus drivers are calling for higher wages on Advent Saturday!

On Saturday, December 7, 2024, bus drivers and other employees of Verkehr und Wasser GmbH (VWG) in Oldenburg demonstrated for higher wages. This happened as part of a three -day warning strike that led to additional traffic disruptions in the city center on the last day. The employees once pulled around the inner city ring from the station forecourt and demanded a significant wage increase from the management. Despite previous negotiations, the conversations remained without success, such as Nwzonline reported.

The ver.di union called for this warning strike, since the wage of the VWG is considered too low compared to other municipal transport companies in Lower Saxony. The demonstrators pointed out that wages for bus drivers lie in the lowest area, which led to the striking activities. In addition to the protests, a special timetable was published on the VWG website, which informed passengers about the restricted bus connections during the strike period, reports NDR .

The warning strike in Oldenburg is not the first action of this kind, because at the end of November a one -day warning strike had taken place, in which around 200 employees gathered. The amount of wages remains a central concern, and it remains to be seen whether there are further strikes in the run -up to Christmas.
