Protests against concrete mixing work: Entrepreneur Manzke fights for approval
In the heart of Lüneburg, entrepreneur Felix Manzke plans to build a modern concrete mixer, despite increasing civil protests. Manzke, managing director of the group of the same name, has to replace the project in view of an existing mixed work that will have to close soon. The new concrete mixing plant is to be built in the industrial area between the Landwehr, Autobahn and the old B4. However, the Citizens' Initiative Pro Papenburg expresses considerable concerns because it fears dirt, noise, increase in traffic and in particular dangers for the way to school on Bernsteinstrasse.
"We rely on modern technology," explains Hendrik Hilmer, the technical manager of the company. The planned mixing plant is designed as a closed system, which means that no dust or sand particles get into the air. Hilmer adds that the new technology consumes only half of the water compared to older mixed systems. Manzke, who maintains numerous branch offices in the region, also emphasizes the logistical advantages of the location. The proximity to the highway is intended to help optimize the delivery trips and thus reduce emissions.
reactions of the residents and transport analysis
The residents have particularly fought that they have to expect a significant increase in traffic due to the intended building. According to Manzke, around 18,000 vehicles run on the old B4 every day. He estimates that the new location for the concrete mixing plant could handle around 60 to 100 truck loads a day. This is opposed to his calculations, which only predict an increase of six to ten vehicles towards Bardowick. Since Manzke's company is trying to transparency, he also informed the local mayor Jens-Peter Schultz and Lüneburg politics about his plans. Despite the withdrawn building permit, Manzke wants to stick to his project.
"We have already submitted expert opinions on environmental and traffic issues that can also be used in the new B-Plan process," explains Manzke. This indicates that he is also determined in this planning phase to implement the project. He also emphasizes the economic situation of the construction industry, in which craftsmen have to deal with declines in order. As a supplier, Manzke feels the effects of market developments, which forces him and his company to work extremely efficiently to secure the workforce.
With his vision and the innovative approaches, Felix Manzke tries to find the balance between the needs of his customers and the legitimate concerns of the residents. It remains to be seen how the situation will develop. However, the disputes between the economic ambitions of the entrepreneur and the concerns of the citizens seem to be inevitable, while local politics must weigh up the necessary steps for discussion and possible approval of the project. The background and other developments on this controversy are still being observed closely, and it is clear that the topic could have a significant impact on the region both short and long-term.
