New year, new bridges: construction plans for Northern Saxony in focus!

On January 6, 2025, important developments in the traffic and construction sector in northern Saxony and adjacent regions were reported. From 2024, the State Office for Transport will begin construction work on federal and state roads in northern Saxony. Some of these construction work are already in implementation, while others are still standing. This leads to kilometers of diversions, which in particular burden the residents. There are numerous projects in Delitzsch for 2025, despite a tense financial situation. This includes the opening of the new Elberitzbad, for which the operating concept is still missing, as well as the renovation of the Artur Becker secondary school, for which only partial financing has been secured, such as the LVZ reported.

Another central topic is the security of the Elbe bridge in Torgau. After the Carol Bridge collapsed, there are uncertainties about the condition of the Torgau bridge. However, the bridge specialist Klaus Grabein explained that the Torgauer Elbbrücke is safe and that the flow of traffic is expected to cope with decades.

construction plans of a new Elbbrücke

In connection with bridge construction projects, the situation is also considered in the right -Elbian area. The municipality of Neuhaus has not had a nearby bridge over the Elbe for over 30 years. The district of Lüneburg invested 900,000 euros in the planning services for a new Elbe bridge in 2024. The planning approval that corresponds to the building application has already been concluded and the necessary documents were submitted. So far, 30 statements by providers of public issues and 161 statements of private persons have received the building application. A law firm is commissioned to evaluate these statements.

A discussion date for the bridge project is planned for the end of 2025, at which a large event is expected. The "Bridges Bauen" support association announced that 1502 craft businesses near the Elbe support the bridge. This would help the craftsmen from Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania to remain competitive because ferry fees and waiting times would be omitted. The estimated costs for the new bridge amount to almost 100 million euros. The Lüneburg district administrator Jens Böther (CDU) emphasized that the district council has already voted for the project and drives it further, while the Greens argue that the funds could also be used for other projects, especially since the SBU needs more money for staff in 2025, such as Nordkurier reported.
