Bodenwerder: Weekly market in danger - retailers withdraw!

Bodenwerder. Mayor Friedrich-Wilhelm Dorette (SPD) is concerned: Fewer and fewer sellers are willing to offer their goods. The flower dealer Volker Gebert has already broken off his tents, followed by a fruit and greengrocer, and now the cheese dealer has also disappeared. The situation is alarming, because without contracts and stand fees, the dealers seem to be simply disappearing!

After the Reformation Day, only three dealers were on the market on Friday: Fish Feinkost Jan, a honey dealer and potato builder Pook. At least five dealers came back the following week, including poultry dealers Hemf. But is this small selection enough to attract customers? Dorette emphasizes that the city is doing everything possible to preserve the market, but reality looks different. "Nobody can do anything if people don't buy there," he says, indicating the migrating dealers who look for better sales opportunities.

dealers draw consequences

The fruit and greengrocer Tner Kahraman has given up after only a few months and is now moving to East Westphalia. Some customers said "too expensive", but Kahraman remains convinced that quality has its price. Gebert has also decided to leave the market in Bodenwerder behind, which Dorette cannot understand. The mayor speaks of misunderstandings and emphasizes that there was never an arrangement that had influenced the donor decision. "We only asked to get into conversation," he explains frustrated.

On November 8, the remaining five dealers were back on site, but the question remains: How long? Dorette sees the challenges that not only affect Bodenwerder. "It is not easy in our city," he says, realizing that change in the city centers is a general problem. The future of the weekly market is on the brink, and time is pushing!
