Grizzly Giesen celebrate a clear 3-0 win in front of 1503 enthusiastic fans!

In an exciting volleyball game, the Helios Grizzlys Giesen clearly prevailed in the Volksbank Arena last weekend with 3-0 against VC Bitterfeld-Wolfen. The game only lasted 90 minutes and revealed a clear class difference, especially in the first game set.

coach Itamar Stein had set up a powerful team, consisting of player Nick Slight, the middle blockers Miguel Sinfronio and Noah Baxpöhler as well as the attackers Ethan Champlin, Mark Rura and Jori Mantha. Libero Niklas Breilin rounded off the Starting-Six. The course of the game was typical of the Grizzlys: In the first few minutes, they already led 6-0, what guest coach Lukas Thielemann, who represented Chan Cheng Liu at short notice, prompted to take a second break early. Bitterfeld-Wolfen had problems to counter the strong serves of the Giesener and lost the first sentence after only 19 minutes with 25: 8.

The challenge in the second sentence

In the second set, the Grizzlys switched back a gear, which offered the team from Saxony-Anhalt a few opportunities. Bitterfeld-Wolfen even took the lead at times, which Stein did not leave unnoticed with a time-out at a stand of 19:21. Observed by manager Sascha Kucera on the edge of the field, the team hoped to restore the dominance of the first sentence. However, the Grizzlys showed their class, defended a set ball and secured the set with 28:26.

The spectators in the arena cheered over the 2-0 set lead, even if this sentence was a hard struggle. The third sentence initially started, but the grizzlys settled down thanks to the precise serves by Hauke Wagner and the attacks by Ethan Champlin. The Gieseners soon led to 16:12, and the preliminary decision was tangible. Wagner contributed further successful blows, and newcomer Sam Cooper put another accent with his point at 21:16. The conclusion was an ASS by Jan Röling, which decided the third set with 25:17 and thus the entire game for the Grizzlys.

Ethan Champlin was named the best player in the game, while Sinfronio and Rura also performed strong performance. Despite the challenges in the second sentence, coach Stein said positively: "It was a classic volleyball game. We come into play well and win the first set. Then you can see that Bitterfeld can also play volleyball. In the end I am satisfied with the game," said Stein. With this victory, the Grizzlys occupy fourth place in the table after the fifth matchday with a total of eleven points.
