District committee Helmstedt warns: hospital care in danger!

Helmstedt, Deutschland - The district committee Helmstedt has asked the Lower Saxony state government in a dramatic appeal not to agree to the current draft of the Hospital Supply Bessery Act (KHVVVG) in the Federal Council! The reason: The government must finally close the inflation gap from 2022 to 2024 with an increase in the state base case, otherwise health care in the region is in danger of collapse!

The alarming financial situation of the 36 Lower Saxony counties and the Hanover region cannot be overlooked! The households are more tense than ever - an unbalanced budget was already adopted in 2024, and further deficits are programmed for 2025. High expenses in youth welfare, rising personnel costs and inadequate financial resources for the municipalities are just a few of the factors that tighten this catastrophic situation. Particularly serious is the fact that the financing of the hospital companies mainly depends on the health insurance companies, while the legal framework conditions are determined by the federal legislator that refuses to react to the necessary adjustments!

The dramatic consequences of underfunding

Without the urgently needed inflation compensation, countless municipalities continue to threaten massive deficits that many hospitals could bring to the edge of bankruptcy! In 2023, the counties and independent cities had to raise a huge 586 million euros to support the municipal clinics - an amount that continues to grow and endanger municipal self -government! The facts speak volumes: The Federal Minister of Health nevertheless did not comply with his promises to conclude the structural deficits of the clinics!

The KHVVG, which is currently being treated in parliament, could change everything, but is only sustainable if the clinics are ensured. The district of Helmstedt requires the state government to call the mediation committee and to refuse approval to the KHVVG until the inflation gap is finally closed. Otherwise, those responsible bear the shared responsibility for the well -being of the hospitals and thus also for the health of the people in the region!
