Sustainability day in the Geopark: Floor protecting for the future!
on October 26, 2024 at 10 a.m. there will be an important event in the Schöningen research museum, which deals with an often overlooked but essential topic: floors and its protection. The Geopark Harz. Braunschweiger Land. Ostfalen is already organizing its fourth sustainability day and offers a platform for discussion about the complex interactions between the ground, climate and biodiversity.
On this day, five experts will share their knowledge and perspectives. Among them is Dr. Ernst Gehr from the Leibniz University of Hanover, which will respond to the social importance of the soil. In addition, Dr. Robin Stadtmann from the State Office for Mining, Energy and Geology about the challenges and perspectives of soil protection in Lower Saxony. Thomas Jensen, head of specialist area at the Lower Saxony State Forests, offers interesting insights into the importance of the forest floor.
important topics and panel discussion
Another highlight of the day is the presentation of Prof. Dr. Christoph Tebbe, scientific director at the Thünen Institute for Biodiversity, which will talk about the function of microbiomes in our floors. The end of the program is a panel discussion in which innovative approaches for sustainable soil management and protection are to be discussed. This is intended to raise awareness of the valuable resource soil.
The event is free of charge for everyone. Offers such as the special exhibition "No cake without floor", which was created in cooperation with the BUND Niedersachsen and other partners, offer additional benefits. This exhibition can be visited during the breaks and according to the lectures.
If you want to participate, you should register at info@geopark-hblo.de or by phone at 05353 3003. For more information and the detailed program, a look at the website of the geopark ( www.geopark-hblo.de ).
The event shows how important it is to deal with the topic of soil. In times of climate change, sustainable handling of agricultural areas and natural resources is more important than ever. The sustainability day will therefore not only take part in the discussion about the future of our soils.
