Burning coach on A1: three seriously injured after dramatic accident

Eugendorf, Österreich - on December 5, 2024, around 7 p.m., road users reported a burning bus on the A1 West Autobahn. The 23-year-old driver from Salzburg had deleted the fire in the engine area after hearing a loud bang and discovering a flame in the engine compartment. Despite his successful extinguishing attempts, the driver inhaled some flue gas and was cared for by the Red Cross on site. The cause of the fire is currently still unclear, but a technical problem is considered likely. The no longer ready to drive had to be towed by a special company, which led to traffic disruptions until around 11 p.m., such as fireworld.at reported.

at night, around 3 a.m., a serious accident occurred with a coach on the West Autobahn in the direction of Vienna. The bus, which had around 25 inmates, crashed into the concrete wall of the road in the construction site area. In this accident, at least three people were seriously injured and 16 others were slightly injured, while eight uninjured people were looked after by the crisis intervention team. The bus with Kosovar license plates transported tourists who wanted to visit their relatives with Hanover as a destination, said police spokesman Hans Wolfgruber. The emergency services faced major challenges because access to the scene of the accident was made more difficult. The A1 was closed in both directions until 8:30 a.m. before a lane could be released again at 9:30 a.m., as Autto.at reported.
