Hameln City Gallery: Survey shows falling interest in the ECE!

Hameln. The city gallery in Hameln, which has been a central point in the cityscape since its opening on March 11, 2008, is again in the focus of a controversy discussion. Even before the construction, there were mixed opinions about the need for such a shopping center. While critics feared that it acted as a foreign body and burdened inpatient trade in the city center, supporters saw opportunities for additional attractiveness and more visitors in the pedestrian zone.

The discussion is currently initiated by the news of three shops that will leave the building in spring 2025. This development awakens memories of the debates, which took place both before and after the opening of the city gallery. In a survey on the Dewezet website, many readers recently commented on their shopping experiences in the city gallery.

Dewezet survey in the ECE-yes or no?

By Monday afternoon, 990 people took part in the survey and submitted their opinions on their shopping behavior in the city gallery. 45.6 percent showed that they rarely shop there. About 31.2 percent stated that they “no longer” visit the ECE, while 17.9 percent even said they would never shop there. In contrast, there are only 5.4 percent who often shop in the city gallery.

The second question of whether the city gallery will lose attractiveness due to the closure of three Wellner shops, 364 participants mostly answered yes (56.3 percent), while only 11 percent denied this. Around 32.7 percent could not decide. Interestingly, the last question aimed at whether people go to the gallery primarily to shop or to eat. Of the 335 respondents, 45.1 percent mainly use shops, while 26 percent prefer gastronomy and 29 percent use both offers.

Although this survey is not representative, it reflects an insightful opinion. A look at Facebook comments also shows a variety of views on this topic.

The upcoming departure of the Wellner shops does not surprise everyone. The entrepreneur Sascha Kurz sees the acquisition of the knight's passage by Holger Wellner as a logical sequence and believes that a revival could occur in one to one and a half years. The development of direct access to his fashion house is also expected.

Stefan Luthe, on the other hand, expresses that this represents the "final mercy" for the basement of the city gallery for the food market. Many readers realize real as an important attraction that has lured people into the gallery and whose absence is painfully missing.

Another problem addressed by the readers are the high rental prices. Rocco Lino sums it up: "The time of shops for consumer items is over." The online trade has caused a fundamental change in the habits of consumers. In a shopping center, only products that are not available online can be offered today, such as gastronomy or special leisure activities.

Nevertheless, there are also positive voices. Sven Sandvoß finds the gallery ideal because everything is concentrated in one place. Ilhan Yilmaz even believes that the opening of other shops, such as action and net, could enliven the city gallery enormously. The desire for another large retailer, for example H&M, was also expressed.

Developments around the city gallery show that there are still conversation. The continuing changes and the different opinions on the shops in the ECE will certainly still provide many discussions.
