Nordhorn cracks record: 568,644 kilometers for climate protection!

Nordhorn, Deutschland - Nordhorn did it! The city has set a sensational record at this year's city cycling: an incredible 568,644 kilometers were cycled by 2,775 participants in just three weeks! This impressive performance was recently celebrated in the full town hall, where the results were presented and the prices for the best teams were handed over.

"We had hoped to top our previous year's result, but we hadn't expected such a success!" Signed Gerwin Rademaker, the city's environmental officer. Together with City Councilor Milena Schauer, he found that the number of participants and the overall performance rose by around 25 percent compared to the previous year. City cycling has not only established itself as an environmentally friendly initiative, but also as a great community campaign that brings together the citizens of Nordhorn.

Another reason to be happy: Nordhorn was again awarded 50,000 to 100,000 inhabitants among the cities as the “most bicycle -active municipal parliament”! Mayor Thomas Berling and a delegation of council members will travel to Munich at the end of November for the award ceremony. This award shows how committed the council members have participated in the city bike.

The schools played a crucial role in the overall result. The city had awarded special prices for the most active primary and high schools, which motivated the students to collect their kilometers. The Freiherr from the Stein School won an average of 144.8 km per student and received 7,500 euros for her school yard. The Bookholt primary school also set a new scale with 393.3 km per student and can look forward to another schoolyard extension.

Thanks to numerous sponsors, many individual prices could also be raffled off. The main prices of 500 euros each went to Frank Klompmaker and Rudolf Werning. Other winners received great prizes, including bicycle helmets and vouchers. If you have not yet picked up your price, you can do so by December 30, 2024 in the City Council of the City of Nordhorn.
