Security check in Göttingen: Police stops racers and alcohol offices!
Last week there was a comprehensive traffic control in the Göttingen area, in the framework of which the police monitored the speed, the influence of alcohol and drugs as well as regulations on the design of vehicles. The campaign extended for two days, from Thursday to Friday (October 17th/18.10.24). Participants included the Göttingen police and the central police department, supported by employees of the city and the district of Göttingen.
In these controls, both festivals and mobile locations were used to achieve a wide range of road users. Speed measurements were carried out at three checkpoints, with a total of 377 violations. The most striking speed crossing was a whopping 73 km/h.

The officials checked 186 vehicles, including cars, motorcycles, small vans, bicycles and e-scooters. The traffic campaign led to three investigative procedures initiated, which, among other things, related to drunkenness in traffic. 61 traffic offenses were found, and in one case a driver's license was confiscated. Due to the identified violations, the police prohibited the road users in 26 cases."Road safety is a central concern that concerns us all. Every road user has the responsibility to act carefully and considerently in order to avoid accidents and to protect the life of everyone on road traffic," said police commissioner Marvin Momberg, who headed control. "Not adapted speed and the influence of alcohol or drugs are still among the main causes of the accident".
Momberg also emphasized the importance of the prescription design of vehicles. "Unbelievable design changes lead to dangers that can result in potentially serious traffic accidents. This was another point that we took into account during our controls," he remarked.
The controls carried out should not only punish violations, but also raise awareness of traffic safety and draw attention to the risks in road traffic. These holistic measures have established themselves as an important instrument for accident prevention. The Göttingen police are planning to continue such actions in the future to consistently increase security on the streets.
