Seddin in focus: Sensational excavations reveal the bronze time settlement!

Groß Pankow. Currently in the Prignitz, a part of Groß Pankow, significant archaeological excavations. Several floor plans have already been discovered that offer exciting insights into the life of the Bronze Age. The archaeologists have opened around 2000 square meters of space and initially indicate a complex settlement.

The archaeologists, under the direction of Immo Heske from the University of Göttingen, use proven methods in addition to modern techniques. An excavator was originally used, but due to the numerous finds, it was decided to continue working manually in order to document the finds better. With a lot of patience and precision, layers are removed for layers of the ground.

Interest nationwide

The interest in the excavation site is great. Franz Schopper from the Brandenburg State Office for the Preservation of Monuments emphasizes: "The view is nationally and internationally aimed at Seddin." Even representatives of the British Guardian have announced themselves to report on the information. The excavations not only bring new knowledge about the Bronze Age, but also promote regional development.

The excavations also create new jobs in the region. The district plans to create three new bodies to cope with the bureaucratic challenges that are linked to such important finds. Christian Fenske, who is responsible for economy and building, explains the need for these places to lead visitors to the archaeological hotspot and to improve the paths.

houses from the Bronze Age: An insight

The excavations already provide valuable insights into the way of life of the residents at the time. Finds of charred acorns and panicles indicate that the population primarily feeded on plant food. It also shows that the construction of the houses was characterized by technical facilities such as oven and stove plates. These finds not only provide information about nutrition, but also about the way of life and culture of the time.

A central question concerns the archaeologists: How did people live in the settlement? It is believed that between 200 and 300 people lived in the community at the same time, mainly metal founders, carpenters, farmers and craftsmen.

The region proves to be an important commercial location. The Stepenitz River could have been accessible at the Bronze Age, which further confirms the assumptions about trade activities in this region.

In the coming year, the excavations will continue towards Stepenitz. The goal is to continue the work and at the same time promote tourism through innovative approaches such as virtual reality. These measures are intended to make the results of the excavations accessible to a wide audience.

For those interested, there will be guided tours at the excavation site on October 15, and on October 16 there will be a lecture in the Museum Perleberg, which illuminates the latest findings and developments in the excavations. These events offer the opportunity to learn more about the fascinating discoveries and their importance for the region.
