Cost explosion: Rainbow Family lets district of Göttingen sit at 28,000 euros!

The illegal accumulation of the "Rainbow Family" in the Harz has caused high costs for the district of Göttingen. In the summer of last year, up to 1,500 people camped in the landscape protection area near Bad Grund and Clausthal-Zellerfeld. The administration of the district has now disclosed the financial effects of this unauthorized meeting: total expenses add up to almost 28,000 euros, such as Göttinger Tageblatt reported. These costs were incurred by organizational and safety -relevant measures that were necessary to cope with the situation.

The breakdown of the expenditure shows that around 532.89 euros were used to material costs and 11,073.06 euros were used for orders to third parties, including towing services and drone inserts. The operations of authorities and aid organizations caused costs of 16,382.51 euros. However, these costs do not have to be borne by the campers, since no direct managers could be identified for the meeting. This means that the district has to bear the additional costs itself. Administrative offense proceedings are currently underway against some participants in the camp, with violations of closures and residence restrictions being punished.
