Christmas prices in Gifhorn: Mandarins and chocolate more expensive than ever!

Gifhorn. The prices rise! The fear of a price shock with popular festive articles such as mandarins and chocolate hovers over the heads of the Gifhorn. Dealers report partly dramatic price developments that could cloud the festive mood. Udo von Ey, head of the Schütte department store, gives the all -clear for Christmas decorations: "The prices have remained stable, no noteworthy increases!" But the shadows of Corona pandemic throw long shadows on pricing.

However, reality looks different when it comes to the mandarins! Amer Siala from the Multi Markt warns: "The price for mandarins has risen from 1.50 euros to 2.30 euros per kilo!" The reasons are alarming: storms in Spain have severely impaired harvests and the transport costs explode. The situation is also tense at the weekly market. Daniela Wegner, a market feeder, complains: "I am glad that I can offer mandarins at all!" The quality could fluctuate by Christmas and the prices remain uncertain.

Prices during wholesale fluctuate more

The chocolate has also become more expensive! In the small shop "Culinari", owner Brigitte Kotulla reports of price increases of up to 15 percent. A popular organic chocolate die now costs 4.70 euros instead of 4.20 euros. "The customers don't ask about the price, they want something nice," explains Kotulla. The festive atmosphere is bought expensive, and the Gifhorner have to prepare for a more expensive purchase, while the dealers try to keep prices as low as possible.
