Park-and-Ride in Calberlah: 21 new parking spaces for commuters!
Calberlah is upbringing! The park-and-ride system at the train stop is expanded massively-and in the interests of the commuters! With impressive 21 new parking spaces on an area of around 700 square meters, the chaotic parking situation will finally be a thing of the past. The construction costs of 380,000 euros are generously supported by the state of Lower Saxony and the regional association Braunschweig. The construction work is already underway and should be completed in just six to eight weeks!
"It took a long time, but now the time has come," cheered Mayor Phillip Passeyer at the groundbreaking ceremony. The planning was over four to five years because Deutsche Bahn insisted on keeping its ICE route free for future extensions. "We negotiated the train intensively," said Passeyer and confirmed that a 30-year lease was concluded with the property owner.
Funding Sure the progress
The support from the state of Lower Saxony and the regional association Braunschweig is the key to this success. "The project would not have been possible without these funding," emphasized Passeyer. Detlef Tank, chairman of the regional association, praised the good cooperation with Deutsche Bahn and the property owner. "The foresight of the railway to keep the ICE route for possible extensions is a sign of reason," he said, emphasizing the need to further develop the infrastructure for local public transport.
The construction planning is headed by the engineering company Kepper, while the Gifhorner company M+B Tietge takes over the construction. The goal is clear: the park-and-ride system should not only be designed practical, but also inviting. "Parking remains free for commuters!", Passeyer promised and was optimistic that the stop itself will soon be modernized, especially if the Deutsche Bahn will renovate the ICE route from 2027.
