Gifhorn: Wastewater prices rise again - citizens have to dig deeper into their pockets!
gifhorn. The city of Gifhorn is facing a financial shock! The municipal monopolist ASG plans to drastically increase the wastewater prices for 2025. The Gifhorner must adjust to noticeable additional costs that will burden the household cash registers.
Wastewater prices are said to rise by 5 percent, just two years after a previous increase of 12 percent. This is the result of rising costs, which, according to ASG, climb from 6.0 to 6.35 million euros, while the amount of wastewater remains constant. A little ray of hope: A last year's surplus of 100,000 euros dampens the climb a little. But the cost of rainwater is also increasing, if only by one cent per square meter to 55 cents.
price shock by redesigning the pedestrian zone
The redesign of the pedestrian zone has unexpected financial consequences! The residents have to expect drastic price increases. Instead of 5.70 euros per meter, 8 euros will be due in the future. The ASG justifies this with an increased cleaning effort caused by the new planters and play equipment. In addition, a deficit that has already accrued is mined, while the city already bears 80 percent of the costs of a considerable appearance.
more expensive street cleaning and winter service
But that's not all! The fees for street cleaning and winter service are also increasing. The weekly street cleaning is raised from EUR 2.39 to EUR 2.50. In the future, residents will have to pay 0.03 euros per meter for winter service on side streets, and even 0.60 euros on heavily used main roads. Overall, the road service of residential and side streets is almost 5 percent more expensive, and even more than 11 percent on main roads. The Gifhorner citizens are faced with a financial burden that cannot be ignored!
